I created these 5 temporary book covers for the next book which is based on this photoblog.
Which of the 5 (starting on the top left; 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) is your favorite?
Thanks in advance for your help :)

2, it's streets (and alive)
Posted by: david | April 3, 2005 01:02 PM
number 5! (no doubt)
Posted by: pablo | April 3, 2005 01:21 PM
Number 5 (cover5.jpg). Love the "movement" of the people...really captures "the streets are alive."
Posted by: cscs | April 3, 2005 01:26 PM
First reaction #3, then #4.
Posted by: photographer52 | April 3, 2005 02:22 PM
first the #5 then the #1 ,#3 and #2
Posted by: zamaphoto | April 3, 2005 02:48 PM
#4 then #5, both covers reflect 'streets are alive'
I put #4 in the first place from a commercial point of view. A person only slightly familiar with street photography will look at the book twice because of the colours and perhaps induced to buy.

My first reaction is to go with No4 then No2 and No3.

Number one. Though the color in number two is great.

i like 5 the most, then 1 and 3. for some reason the blurs in 5 really appealed for me. regardless, you have selected 5 extremely strong images. can't go wrong with any of them really.

definitely number 4
Posted by: dave | April 3, 2005 08:16 PM
Number 4 is the best one!
Posted by: Amit | April 3, 2005 09:21 PM
i think there's alot of curiosity happening in pic #1 & pic #2.

Nitsa, you are in trouble if you are looking for a consensus here ;-)
I would chose 1 or 5, because this is more how I see your photoblog. The first because is a typical urban view by Nitsa, and the last because is the way you often abstract people. If the cover should represent the content, those are the ones I would prefer (no 1 I like more photographically, no. 5 is more in theme).
Number 3 is also representative, but a little messy the way it goes into the title.
Number 2 I like a lot in terms of colors and composition, but is more literal than your usual photos.
Number 4 I don't like much and can confuse people on the subject of the book.

I'm inclined to say that you need to pick on your own, since we don't seem to agree...but #2 definitely grabs me the most. HOWEVER...#3 grabbed me at first. But, it's not quite as unique as #2, and you need to reflect the nature of your photography in the cover as much as possible. #3 does that, but #2 screams out "Nitsa!"
Posted by: valis | April 3, 2005 10:41 PM
hmmm, I think it has to be #1 for me :-)

The black and white covers number 1 and 5 :)
Posted by: The Living Eye | April 3, 2005 11:22 PM
Obviously I like these book covers all the same and I would have driven myself crazy before I could chose one (clearly I should have stopped after making the first one!)
Besides I thought it will be cool if you guys chose the cover as in a way I feel that the book is going to represent the concept and the formation of this special photoblogs' community I discovered here :)
So it’s OK if there’s no consensus; I will just add up the number of “votes” each cover receives and the “winner” will be the final book’s cover.

No 4
I lived a few years in LA before i turned back in my home town Amsterdam, Holland. If i see your number 4 pic i see and feel LA !!

I agreed at first with dreaming in neon, that #4 would be the best from a marketing point of view. Also I think it's a great picture so this marketing angle would not a compromise to increase sales.
However I doubt that this argument is very convincing to you. So personally I liked #2 the best as a cover. I liked the slickness of it, and the subtle colors. I liked the fact that it was a picture of a street and only a street, so I thought it was the most appropriate for the content. Finally, I liked that the picture took up the entire page, rather than portions of it like the others. So overall I vote for #2.
Honorary mention also to #1. :-) Well, I liked all of them! At least you can't lose on this choice.

I'd have to say the second one. Light reflecting off the wet pavement is just a favorite of mine.

Number 5 (I like the idea of movement), then number 4 (I like the colors). In both cases associated to the idea of being alive.
Posted by: Ramiro | April 4, 2005 12:38 PM
I think #2 will have the most appeal to the general reader and sell the most copy.
Posted by: Mike | April 4, 2005 01:11 PM
i'd go for 4 or 5. i love the "moving" colors on 4 and the dynamic movements on 5. if i had to choose one. i'd pick 4. very cool photoblog. keep it up.

#2 and then #5
Posted by: dawn | April 4, 2005 02:42 PM
I like all 5 of them... But if i had to choose. The 1st cover than the 3rd cover for the second choice.

i THINK ONE OF THE b&w COVERS WILL REFLECT BETTER YOUR WORK AND THE STREET PHOTOGRAPHY. tHE ONE WITH THE PEOPLE IS THE BEST FOR ME. NUMBER 5.
Posted by: Daniel G. | April 4, 2005 05:43 PM
I think 5 or 1, these choices are equal. I don't prefer one over the other.
Posted by: Deb | April 4, 2005 07:18 PM
My vote is #5, the black and white with the pople moving. That is full of energy and when I think of streets beign alive I think of people. My second choice is #1, because like others have already said, it reflects more so what is typical of your work than the others. IMHO
Posted by: John Hyden | April 4, 2005 09:47 PM
A couple of other things I liked about #2. First, the colors and moisture gave the street an almost organic look to it. Like frog skin or something, calling to mind living streets (who remembers the set in the original Alien?). Second, I like the arrow on top pointing to the title, and the curved one on the bottom, as if beckoning you to open the page and look inside.
If I was in the store and saw these five books, #2 would be the first one I'd open.
OK I got two votes, that's enough. :-)

They're all great.
But #5 is by far my favorite.
Posted by: Susan B. | April 5, 2005 12:11 AM
#3 stands out as being unique, a bit rough but stands out .... second place #1 .... the other covers like books I've already seen before so I would most likely pass 'em by .... #5 is really good, but it looks generic ...
Posted by: Crash | April 5, 2005 06:14 AM
1 and 5 - they are amazing, keep em comin!
Posted by: s.hu | April 5, 2005 12:55 PM
i like em all, they're all really nice. now, it really depends on which photos u'll be putting into the book
Posted by: gousty | April 5, 2005 09:38 PM
Without a doubt, number 3 is my favorite. I think it's the most unique of the group, and it represents your work the best, I think (especially you more recent work). My only beef with it is the typeface treatment. I can't say the font does much for me. I like distressed fonts a lot, but this one is just kind of blah. I'd also like to make the recommendation that the masthead be tighter like the other four.

I'm certainly partial to #3 Much beauty is seen and unseen in this image!

Number 5! I love it!

#1 or 2!

#1
Posted by: Markus Hartel | April 7, 2005 11:24 AM
nitsa, i think you should ask, which one that we gonna buy ? :D
i like #1 the picture, lighting and the composition are great but the picture doesn't really express the word "alive"
#2 i like the layout and the picture also great. I think the arrow represent the word "street and alive" but still a little bit monoton
#3 i will say that this one is OK
#4 the combination not to great, the color made me confused :)
#5 this can represent the word alive, as a matter fact I can feel the motion.
so in order i will choose: 5, 1, 2, 3, 4
that's my 2 cents
as is and no return :)

#1 then #3 then #5 .. I prefer #1 the most
Posted by: miklos | April 8, 2005 02:35 PM
#4 is my suggestion...
the life on the streets shows!...plus its an image not made before...
i spent a large part of my day today looking through all your photographs....
trust me i am stunned!
Posted by: lavannya | April 9, 2005 06:26 AM
I prefer the first one, then the third one, then the second one,
then the fouth and the 5
the first one is quiet strong in two ways, it's like you enter another world, it's described perfectly "street are alive" being a kind of opposing vision. Night vision, with nobody, but something strong happening, let's follow the light!!!
The number third is also a good one, a pictural one, a painting one...
The second one shows you the way to follow to see next...
The fourth is good but not as strong as other, as I feel it,
And the last one, I don't think you should choose it, just because it's not as original as others and also it seems it could have been done by someone else, I mean it doesn't identify your own personality, your own world!
that's it
good luck
great work!

No. 5 as in Chanel ;)
did i vote already?
Posted by: deloquesoy | April 15, 2005 08:57 AM
5,1,2 as gold, silver, bronz - not like they are not good, all 5 is cool, but Ithink that's how they are relevant to 1, your subject 2, your style, 3...and photography --> why to put a big photoshop splash on the cover, when beautiful photographs are at hand??!
still love your work :)))))bp

I have looked at all 5 for a while now and No.2 would have be my fave ....
