headless

I always believed window displays are a window to current and local culture.  One day, when I run out of ideas and fall into a photographers’ block, I will probably create a series of these unique window displays.

One thing I noticed in recent years is that there are more and more headless manikins out there…so I wonder, how does that reflect on our culture?

Nitsa, this is brilliant! Here's what I like about this one. The old pre-WWII feel to it. The bright lights at the mannikin's feet and the way they give a glow to her dress. The guy on the outside, his glasses lit by the lights inside. And mostly the composition, mannikin and human. Also there's this eerie twilight zone quality about it all. Great!!!

As for the headless mannikins, I suspect that's nothing more than a cost cutting measure, an indication of how competive businesses have become now relative to an earlier age.

A very atmospheric photo. Looking at the person in reflection I wonder if it is you.

it is not a reflection and I'm not a man :)

... the de-humanization of our society, in the name of business as usual. sad, no? great pic.

Great image.

Very beautiful shot.

You're really good!

that dude looking thru the window is creepy .... his eyes are glowing ....

l o o k - it's another manniquinn :p

Nitsa mate :) your pic here (and of course the headless manniquinn - the way she's dressed)look like it's a pic from the 1930's or there abouts.
love the old look and feel to this shot.

And not only that.......where have all the 'heads' gone? Is there a resting place for manequin heads? A boneyard of discarded heads, patiently waiting for 'hat' to come into style again?? One wonders...:)

Oh, I like her! She is all dressed up and ready to go to the party. She even has a secret admirer with glowing eyes, only for her ;-)

I, too, have wondered about headless mannequins, and have always assumed it's an attempt to remove race/ethnicity from marketing.

Some displays I've seen in newer shopping areas have mannequins with heads that are a vague, hairless outline of the human head. They've even managed to remove gender associations.

I'm not sure if all this is good or bad. From a photographer's viewpoint, mannequins with heads were a lot more interesting.

that america is becoming more and more anti-intellectual? guys don't care about the face? anarchy? stupidity? that bush is in the white house? whatever it is, this is a really pretty shot

Great photo!

Seems the headless mannequins sometimes take to the streets.

Surreal and beautiful!

Wonderful use of color (lack of). I think there is something to your idea on the headless mannequin.
