bricks

I get lots of emails from people who tell me they feel uncomfortable photographing strangers on the streets. This is probably the number one obstacle in street photography.  At least, for most people.

Me, on the other hand, I’m just the opposite; I have quite a hard time shooting scenes without people in them.

This picture is obviously one without any people walking by or engaged in their daily routines; however, when taking it I sensed the strong human presence beyond these cold bricks.

My kind of urban photography. :) Kind of like a landscape, eh? This has some of the hallmark Nitsa style elements (as I see them anyway): high contrast, not too many colors, subdued colors. (OK I know you have a lot of colorful shots, but as a rule....). I like it.

To be honest, I do not like this pic.
Normaly I think your photos are really, really good. But this photo does not have your 'touch'....

i love it! considering the subject mater it has a surprising sense of warmth. it must be your 'touch'...

i love the way the sun blurs the reality of the branches. From what i have seen on your blog i like your style of photograpy. You seem to have a great sense of composition and balance. The lack of baloance tends to be the downfall of most photographers i have seen in the past.

Nice picture!!I like it!!Nice colors:)

It is the light reflected in the windows. Even if it is light coming from outside (like these apartments have a piece of sky inside) still the effect is that these houses are alive, and this is evocative of the people that live within these bricks walls.

I don't agree w/ Francesco>> it's still kinda your shot, and "cold" as you said of the bricks, whether it's winter or not, it feels like winter, as the colours are cold (the light) making all those trees nearly seethrough and ghostly.

Oh, and the opening shot today, so reminds me of Moholy-Nagy. Love that photo.

it's a "tough" looking photo mate.
but i think you made it shine.
through the skylight :)

I had never really thought about that...do most of the people just assume you're not intentionally photographing them? Has anyone ever asked you "Did you just take my picture?"

You are still photographing people, only I can't see them. They are there, I can feel them in this image. Fantastic shot.

Good question Jessica. Nobody really asks me if I just took their picture because they probably know the answer. Perhaps it has to do with my attitude but anyway the reaction is often a very positive one. Sometimes people apologize for walking into the picture (ha ha!). Sometimes they even offer advice and help :) The only thing I need to worry about is being quick enough to photograph before they notice me so I get that authentic picture.
