Untouched
An answer to a previous question:
If you use/create an effect for the sake of the effect or in order to make your image looking cool, it’s possible pushing too much or over doing might take place.
However, when your objective is to put an idea across than it cannot be measured.
And obviously some pictures are best in their raw state:

Wow, that's terrifying. Did the Clockwork Orange dress dummies get you, or did you get away in time?

I think that light to no effect is best. As you said, sometimes when you try to add too many effects, the picture becomes less about the photograph but more about the effects and reality is blurred. To the detriment of the picture itself.
Wow, that was some horrendous grammar!

I like this picture a lot. Regarding your comment, though, I'm wondering about a couple of things. First, what was your idea that you had when using the effect. Secondly, I'm not sure I agree that using an effect for the sake of it just "looking cool" is necessarily bad. Sure you can use an effect for a bad reason - because you've seen it elsewhere so much so that you think it's what you SHOULD do - ie a cliche. But if you have no specific reason other than you think it will look good, I'm not sure if that's bad. There could actually be a reason or idea somewhere that you just haven't recognized consciously. I guess it depends on what you are doing with photography aslo. If you are using it to express specific ideas, that's fine, but if you are using it to capture interesting images that allow the viewer to create their own ideas, that's fine too...

Levi, I apologize if I wasn't clear but I don't believe I've ever said using an effect to make a picture looking cool was a bad thing.
In fact I see nothing wrong with it :)

These days in the age of Photoshop for example, how would we know if a photo is truely an untouched piece of work...
I think it's art, it has no rules and that's fascinating.
Keep up the great work!

I think that modifying, cropping, applying effects on a photo is okay.
Every shot is an idea of reality, a 'crop' of what we see. One can apply everything he wants if has a good idea.
Of course using a lot photoshop, often, causes the result of losing the original idea and the freshness of the shot.
It's just a matter of style, inner sense of beauty.
I do not think there should be a rule against i.e. photoshop filter.
It's clear that it's quite difficult to apply the 'liquify' or 'watercolor' effect obtaining a decent result.
But if one can do... ok, the final judgment is on the result...

I'm with you, Nitsa. I used to feel guilty if I added an effect to a photo, or messed with it in photoshop at all. Then I realized, after all the tricks and techniques I used in the darkroom for tweny years was really just the same thing.

oh i love the sign above the basement door, looks like "fiery gates" and then right above that in the window is the bright bright lights of "heaven"............creepy stuff, eh? but totally appropriate. i really like the different levels up and down.
